Bayard Rustin — architect of the 1963 March on Washington, strategist and organizer whose name was kept quiet for decades because of who he was
Sylvia Rivera — transgender activist and co-founder of STAR, whose portrait carries a deliberately blank signature space — an erasure honoring what was taken from her
Audre Lorde — poet, essayist, warrior, who taught the world that silence will not protect you
Christine Jorgensen — one of the first widely known Americans to undergo gender reassignment surgery, whose visibility made the path forward possible for those who came after
